Knit a relaxed jumbo-yarn pullover with large checker blocks, a wide boat neckline and dropped shoulders. Alternating stockinette and garter textures create the checks in a single colour. Roomy sleeves and narrow garter edges complete the oversized shape.

  • To fit a body bust of 76–142 cm / 29.9–55.9 in
  • Finished sweater bust: 104–176 cm / 40.9–69.3 in, depending on size
  • Designed with approximately 21–39 cm of positive ease
  • Worked flat from the bottom up in four pieces, then seamed
  • Live shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind-off
  • The narrow garter neck edging is worked in the round after assembly
  • Wide sleeve openings, with narrow garter cuff and hem edges

Yarn, needles and gauge

  • One strand of soft, plump jumbo wool-rich yarn with enough structure to show the smooth and ridged checker blocks
  • Yarn planning specification: approximately 25 m / 27.3 yd per 100 g
  • Purchase approximately 400–550 m / 438–602 yd in total, depending on size; this includes a separate 75 m allowance for the retained swatch and neckline trial
  • Main needles: 20 mm / US 36 circular needles, used back and forth for the pieces
  • Gauge: 5 stitches and 8 rows per 10 cm / 4 in in the full checker texture after blocking

Choose your size using the finished measurements and intended ease. Measure gauge across both smooth and ridged blocks, rather than stockinette alone.
