Knit a relaxed Henley sweater with a rounded neckline, a six-button opening and softly shaped raglan sleeves. Deep ribbed cuffs balance the stockinette body, while a ribbed hem finishes the sweater at the high hip.

What you will knit

A pullover worked from the top down. Knit the yoke and upper body flat, then join the lower body in the round. The sleeves are worked in the round; the ribbed neckband and overlapping button bands are added afterward. Finishing includes sewing at the placket base and underarms.

Sizes and fit

Seven adult sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL.
Reference body bust measurements: 80–142.5 cm / 31.5–56.1 in.
Finished bust measurements: 95–157.5 cm / 37.4–62 in.
Recommended positive ease: 12–18 cm / 4.7–7.1 in. Use the finished measurements and your actual bust to choose your size.

Skill level

Intermediate. Techniques include raglan shaping, working flat and in the round, separating sleeve stitches, picking up stitches, ribbing, buttonholes and finishing a button placket.

Yarn, needles and gauge

  • One aran or heavy worsted yarn, with a suggested specification of 150–180 m per 100 g. A separate mohair strand is not required.
  • Yarn quantities: 850–1,600 m / 930–1,750 yd, depending on size. Follow the size-specific quantities in the PDF.
  • Main needles: 5.5 mm / US 9 circulars. Ribbing needles: 4.5 mm / US 7, or the sizes needed to match gauge. Use your preferred sleeve knitting method.
  • Main blocked gauge: 16 stitches and 22 rows or rounds per 10 cm / 4 in in stockinette.
  • Six 18–20 mm buttons, stitch markers, stitch holders and standard finishing tools.
