Knit an oversized mock neck sweater with a longline shape, dropped shoulders and a deep ribbed hem. Side slits and a slightly longer back give the pullover an easy drape, while the standing ribbed neckline and generous sleeves with deep cuffs add a comfortable finish.

What you will knit

An adult pullover with stockinette fabric and 1×1 ribbed edges. The front, back and sleeves are worked separately, flat from the bottom up. The shaped shoulders are sewn together, the straight sleeve tops are attached, and the side seams stop at the slit markers. Pick up the neckline stitches last and work the upright, single-layer mock neck in the round.

Sizes and fit

Seven sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL.
To fit bust: 76–141 cm / 29.9–55.5 in.
Finished bust: 111.1–173.3 cm / 43.7–68.2 in.

Designed with 28–37 cm / 11–14.6 in of positive ease. Choose your size using the finished measurements and your preferred fit. The back is 3.8 cm / 1.5 in longer than the front.

Skill level

Intermediate. Techniques include flat knitting, increases and decreases, neckline shaping, holding stitches, picking up stitches, circular ribbing and seaming.

Yarn, needles and gauge

  • Yarn: smooth, pliable worsted or light aran yarn, ideally wool-rich with a slight halo; the pattern uses an indicative 180 m / 197 yd per 100 g.
  • Yarn quantity: 1,100–1,900 m / 1,203–2,078 yd, depending on size. Follow the size-specific quantities in the PDF.
  • Needles: 5 mm / US 8 for the stockinette body and ribbed hem; 4 mm / US 6 for cuffs and collar, or sizes needed to match the relevant blocked gauges.
  • Blocked stockinette gauge: 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 cm / 4 in.
  • Hem rib gauge: 18 stitches and 28 rows per 10 cm / 4 in when gently opened. Relaxed cuff and collar rib gauge: 22 stitches and 28 rows or rounds per 10 cm / 4 in.
